Personal Impressions
The Paul Gauguin is a fantastic ship, with wonderful staterooms and my two favorite dining rooms in the whole fleet, L’Etoile and La Veranda. The food is fantastic, particularly the lunches in the Veranda. The fresh fish onboard is second to none; try the fish on the table luncheon menu. The casual fish on the table lu second to none; try the fish on the table luncheon menu. The casual fish on the table luncheon menu. The casual dress code makes for a relaxing, comfortable cruise and I pere luncheon menu. The casual dress code makes for a relaxing, comfortable cruise and I pere luncheon menu. The casual dress code makes for a relaxing, comfortable cruise and I personally really enjoy the informality.
The ship offers complimentary wines with dinner. These are good wines, $15-$25 per bottle in a liquor store. We had some Sterling and other recognizable labels during our trip. This cruise also has many complimentary cocktail events, including the day on the beach in Taha'a and the Bora Bora motu. This includes complimentary exotic drinks in coconuts, along with beer and wine. There are also several “sail away” parties with free drinks. Most guests have no bar bill at all; if there is a bar bill, it is usually very small.
The cabins are very comfortable. The F - C cabins are really identical with the only difference being a porthole on deck 3 (category F) and then windows E - D then balconies starting at category C. All these cabins feature a full size bathtub and a nice size bathroom, two closets, plenty of drawer space and of course a mini fridge complete with complimentary sets up of sodas and water. The woods are very rich. As you go into the larger cabins the space grows and the suites offer a fabulous splurge for those on a honeymoon or anniversary trip.
