Report on the Mariner
An all balcony
suite ship. She started sailing in March 2001. The ship is beautiful, the
cabins are fantastic, and the staff very accommodating and professional.
When boarding you are aware of the 700-person capacity, however, once aboard
it is like all those people disappear. The ship is so spacious and the
public rooms somehow manage to maintain the intimacy that you feel on the
smaller Regent ships. The fabrics, furniture, and dcor of the ship are
absolutely incredible. There is a feeling that no cost was spared to make
this the premier ship in the luxury market.
The ship is really well laid out. Once
again as with the Navigator, Regent has managed to retain the intimacy of
the small ship feeling that I love so much. Whether it is the layout of the
ships or the fact that the space ratio per passenger is so high I never had
that "big" ship crowded feeling. The main lounge has sight lines that are
truly amazing. No columns block the view from anywhere in the theatre. With
this state-of-the-art-lounge the entertainment offerings have certainly
improved over Regent’s smaller ships because they are able to stage larger
and more lavish shows.
Dinner Onboard
The incredible options for dining
really make this ship special.
Signatures, the only Cordon Bleu restaurant at sea is the
epitome of fine French cuisine in an truly sumptuous setting.
Prime 7
The most intimate of restaurants
on board, Prime 7 is a glamorous, contemporary interpretation of a classic
American steakhouse. Along with avant-garde appetizers, savory soups and
tantalizing desserts, the stars of the evening are the main courses with
eight USDA Prime, dry-aged steaks to choose from, plus an enticing selection
of lamb, pork, poultry and seafood specialties.
Compass Rose consistently offers fine dining with a wonderful varied
menu. For a more casual ambiance,
La Veranda offers a tableside service dinner with a changing
menu and the restaurant takes on a completely different feel than you
experience during the day. Wine is complimentary at dinner.
Key Observations
-
A truly beautiful
ship. The fabrics and dcor have everyone talking.
-
The cabins are
really wonderful. Every cabin has a balcony. The smallest cabin
is 301 square feet. Nice marble bathrooms with a full tub. Walk
in closet, with tons of drawer space. The cabins have a high
quality ambiance. The beds have the same "comforters" as the
Navigator, no top sheet. At first I was confused. The comforters
have covers that are washed and replaced. Without a sheet that
comforter just snuggles around you and the effect is one of the
best nights sleep you can imagine. The wonderful cabin, private
balcony, wonderful comforters, and beautiful fabrics makes the
cabin a place you do not want to leave.
-
The food was
truly outstanding and choices of four distinctly different
restaurants are incredible.
-
Signatures is the
first restaurant at sea with Cordon Bleu chefs.
Outstanding food and experience.
-
Four different restaurants for your evening
dining pleasure.
-
The Mariner has full internet and email
capabilities. Very easy to use in the computer room called
"Club.com".
-
If you like entertainment then this ship
offers an outstanding show lounge.
-
Although there are 700-people aboard this
ship has so much space you never feel you are on a ship of this
size. The passengers seem to disappear once you are on board.
Wide halls, lots of public rooms, multiple restaurants a great
ship!
